“Taking a flier” is a familiar phrase in fantasy sports. It means taking a chance on a player that may, or may not, pan out. With my team Skills at 2-0, and Uncle Rico’s Team at 1-1, I’m satisfied through Week 2 of the NFL season, but always looking for an upgrade.
This weeks big pick?

I’m Still Hooked
September 20, 2009
Okay, first week, Skills wins behind a 50 point plus day from Drew Brees (QB-New Orleans)…while in the other league I’m in, Uncle Rico’s Team lags behind and loses thanks to lackluster performances from Eddie Royal (WR-Denver), and Matt Forte (RB-Chicago).

A Random NFL Observation
September 9, 2009

Next Draft!
September 9, 2009
Fresh off the draft for our second team in The Western Mass. Conference, my daughter and I are psyched. We think Uncle Rico’s Team (a tribute to the movie Napoleon Dynamite) has a stacked roster! We’ll see though.
Here we go (in approximate draft order):
RB-Matt Forte (Chicago)
WR-Randy Moss (New England)
RB-Ray Rice (Baltimore)
RB/WR-Beanie Wells (Arizona)
WR-Eddie Royal (Denver)
QB-Matt Ryan (Atlanta)
WR-Lance [...]
Birth of a Fantasy Football Fanatic
September 9, 2009
My fantasy baseball roots go back to 1990, when I met this pretty woman at work who was into fantasy baseball, and had her own team. We got married, had kids, and are still together today, though she’s not into the team anymore (yes, it’s the same keeper league!).
That team, The Scorpions, had an ugly, rebuilding [...]
